Your Sacred Story: The Spiritual Practice of Journaling
September 30 - October 25
This online course is offered through Columbia Seminary’s Certificate Program in Spiritual Formation.
Writing and spirituality have gone hand-in-hand from Biblical times to the present day. Keeping a journal can be an integral part of a daily prayer practice; it can be a tool for discernment and for seeking God’s will in our lives. This online course will explore journaling from a variety of perspectives including writing memoir, writing as a form of prayer, writing for healing and discernment, and writing to share with others.
Students are asked to keep a journal as a spiritual discipline, for the duration of the class. Each week includes topics for meditation and reflection. Students may share actual journal entries or reflections based on the week’s topics. Please note, this is not a “Writer’s Workshop” so we will not be critiquing each other’s writing for grammar or style, although students are encouraged to prayerfully reflect on one another’s entries and to explore the question of how the creative process of writing can be a tool for deepening our relationship with God.
